Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, with a dotted line to the Chief Financial Officer, the role of the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) is to lead and continually improve the company's architecture and application development strategies, and to build a collaborative partnership DiligentPartners very small logo-BWwiththe company's medical device product development leaders. This person will define the company's technology infrastructure, product architecture and development framework; build a best in class team of engineers and developers, and partner with senior management to set strategic direction for the IT organization. The company's architecture team, as well as the Application Development and Maintenance organization will report to this executive.

This role will design and manage a world-class Architecture and Application Development environment that requires the leadership skills needed to manage a large, complex organization with deep technical skills to manage applications at a strategic level. The CTO will have experience and expertise in building a state of the art architecture environment through rationalization of applications, state of the art data layer, and migration to the cloud.

Principal Responsibilities: 

  • Lead and integrate the Architecture and Application Development and Maintenance functions
  • Responsible for the architectural strategy and architecture, design, development, deployment, support, and enhancement of all information technology solutions including a shift towards a PaaS environment
  • Hire, develop, cultivate, and support a team of developers/engineers and foster creative solutions to client problems, using ground breaking technology and methods, with rapid development
  • Drive an integrated build function leveraging Agile and DevOps methodology
  • Oversees the direction for IT's sourcing strategies and effectively manages outsourcing and contractor relationships
  • Works with the senior leaders to develop enterprise standards for IT solutions and simplify and improve the company's application portfolio
  • Analyzes and communicates benefits and risks associated with IT investments and participates in IT governance and decision making, adhering to standards
  • Serves as a mentor and coach for Architecture, Development and Maintenance professionals and is a key thought leader in the latest technologies and industry trends
  • Serves as a change agent and provides leadership and vision

Required Experience:

  • 15 years of experience in software engineering or technology, including 5 years as architect, lead developer, or technical lead
  • 5 years of experience leading and managing technology teams including SaaS software
  • Highly technical with experience in transformation an IT organization to the cloud and building a best in class architecture framework
  • Excellent analytical and decision making abilities with a results oriented focus
  • Influential leader with proven track record in inspiring and driving teams to achieve strategic objectives, while demonstrating the courage to make hard decisions with personnel, as needed
  • Experienced to attracting and retaining new IT talent, as well as promoting the training of legacy team members in new applications, networking and infrastructure tools
  • Experienced in selective outsourcing of discrete functions, and of managing either onshore or offshore managed services providers, as needed
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with excellent problem solving skills, leadership and a willingness to collaborate with executive team leaders
  • Ability to influence peers and senior leadership (IT and Business) and a strong ability to lead teams through change
  • A turnaround change agent with experience in restoring confidence with executive stakeholders in IT's ability to execute and deliver quality results, on time and on budget

Required Education

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or similar field
  • Masters degree preferred
